NOVICE COMPETITIVE PROGRAM

The WAVE Novice Competitive Program is the first stage for young racers age 8–14 years old. Swimmers increase their training and compete at small local meets. Emphasis is placed on swim technique and endurance.

The WAVE Recreational/Fitness Program offers those swimmers wanting to remain active in the water, but not wanting to compete. The program helps to improve swim technique, speed and endurance.

COMPETITIVE PROGRAM

The WAVE Competitive Program is for swimmers aged 8 years old and up. Practices run two hours, two-six times per week. Under the direction of Competitive Coaching staff, swimmers strive to improve their technique, speed and endurance. Competitive swimmers compete at local and out-of-town swim meets. In some cases, swimmers will compete at provincial level and out-of-province/national level meets.

SEARS "I CAN SWIM" PROGRAM

The Sears I Swim Program offers children 4 years old and up an innovative swim-to-learn program developed by Swimming Canada.

With Sears I Can Swim, Winnipeg Wave coaches are dedicated:

·    To teach children to swim well in a fun, challenging and rewarding environment.

·    To teach children the four basic swim strokes: Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly.

Children learn skills at different rates and the I Can Swim Awards Program offers each swimmer a fun and motivational way to track his/her swim progress through their various swimming stages.

Stage 1:  Orientation to Water  -  Establish a sound basis of understanding swimming skills.

Stage 2:  Skill Development Focus on basic swimming movements and coordination such as arm action, sculling and                          breathing.

Stage 3:  Skill Improvement -  Focus on improving the four swim strokes,  reaction/rhythm abilities, increasing endurance, dives and basic turns.

Stage 4:  Advanced Skill Refinement - Refine motor coordination. Introduced to speed  swimming skills – a pace clock, swimming sets, advanced starts and turns – to swim faster and more efficiently.
